What Your Child Will Learn

Self-Rescue SkillsTM

Going beyond traditional swim instruction, ISR teaches children how to potentially survive in the water.

For nearly 60 years, Infant Swimming Resource, LLC (ISR) has been teaching children critical Self-Rescue™ skills -- giving children the competence and confidence to safely enjoy the water. ISR’s technique teaches children ages 6 months to 6 years of age how to potentially save themselves if they were to find themselves in the water alone.

At ISR, your child’s safety is our first priority. Each lesson is uniquely tailored to your child’s needs based on comprehensive assessment and continual monitoring of your child’s health and skill attainment. Because every child learns at his or her own pace, your child will be gently guided through each skill level.

    Lesson Experience

    • Each ISR lesson is one-on-one with only the student and I in the water, and is individualized for each child's needs and abilities.
    • Lessons are 5 days per week, Monday to Friday, and are no more than 10 minutes in length to ensure efficiency and retention. Your child will have lessons at the same time each day.
    • To master these Self-Rescue skills, the enrollment period is usually between 4 and 6 weeks. Children 6 months to 1 year and not walking on average require 4 weeks of lessons. Children 1 year, walking and older typically require 30 consecutive lessons, 6 weeks. There is no set number of lessons, students are in lessons until they master the skills.
    • In addition to teaching your child ISR Self-Rescue skills, I will also provide you, the parent, with information on keeping your family safe around the water.
    • After the initial lesson experience is complete, ISR recommends that every child participate in Refresher lessons every 6 months to a year. This will enable your child to learn how to adjust their swimming and floating skills to their continually growing and developing bodies.
